It is hard to place a single defining point to the origin of Disco, but the first disco style club was opened by New York city DJ David Mancuso in his house called The Loft in 1970. This was a private member-only dance club and proved to be forerunner to disco style clubs. The first disco songs were released in 1973; however there are claims that Manu Dibango’s 1972 Soul Makossa was the first disco album being recorded. Disco was first written about in September of 1974 in the Rolling Stone Magazine by Vince Aletti and the first disco radio show was hosted on New York City’s WPIX-FM in 1974. ABBA was huge and so were their ABBA costumes.
The disco sounds have soaring, reverberating vocals over a steady beat and is known to be influenced by funk, soul music and Latin or Hispanic salsa influences. A lush background sound is lent by strings, electric guitars, horns and electric pianos made both singers and music producers equally famous and pivotal to the entire disco theme. Some of the most famous disco groups from the 70s are the Bee Gees, Diana Ross, The Jacksons and the ABBAs. The ABBA costumes were amazing.

Remember Madonna in material girl? The look she feature din the album will remain immortal with youngsters dressing up as the material girl at parties even today. The proverbial little black number, the wig, leather chokers, black lace anklets and a lot of attitude is all you need to be the Madonna of the party!
The costumes, looks, hairdos are all as many in number as the number of known and unknown singers of past gone by and all of the present. It is probably right when we assume different singers wear different costumes and thank god for it! Wonder were would have the cult following channeled without our favorite singers leading the way in style, fashion and clothes!

Most singers had their own trademark styles of dressing up and were the fashion police of their own times. This is of vital importance as it is the main reason why youngsters then and now loved dressing up like them. It is a common psyche; we love to dress up like our idols or performers whom we simply love. This also explains the huge sales of Gene Simmons costumes, wigs and masks. Halloween is a time when you see an entire brigade of young people dressed up like Gene Simmons with his big silver shoes, heavily accented jackets and a mask with the famous tongue sticking out!
The ABBA costumes from the 70s are one craze that will never end, just like their everlasting music. The band were the epitome of sweet love, couples making music and singing together were revered in Sweden! Mini skirts and bootlegs with ruffles below the knees, loose fitting shirts with bells and shiny men’s shirts with ruffles. Broad belts and blonde wigs became big fashion since Frida and Agneta featured them on their tours and album covers. The ABBA look is still such a rage with the disco loving rage that the number of costumes bought despite them not being exactly cheap is staggering.

Unintentionally but still just like music is divided into different genres, musicians and singers are also seen adorning different clothes. So, if you love rock music, you know they wear long hair and leather clothes with metal spikes; if you loved the disco era, singers wore bell bottoms and flare sleeved shirts. How about an ABBA costume.
Whether at a costume party, a theme party or Halloween, we love dressing up. And if we can dress up like the celebrities or band members of our favorite group, nothing like it! Different singers wear different costumes and these are easily available at stores and online merchants. You can sort costumes by the year, 70s, and 80s and so on. You could choose a costume by the music genre, like disco, rock, pop, country. You could also choose your attire to imitate a band or a particular singer. Perhaps the most imitated singer of all times has been Elvis Presley. Don’t we just love those white flared shirts with ruffled- laced chest, white bell bottoms with silver accents, the blonde wig with that trademark hairdo and top it with a soulful ballad and you are ready to swoon girls!
